Does Wetransfer Compress Files
You’re using Wetransfer on a daily basis or just want to use it, and that is why you’re highly interested to know that Does Wetransfer Compress Files. Right?
I’m not a regular user of WeTransfer but I have a good idea about the platform as I frequently write articles on this topic!
So if you would like to know the answer, this post can help you as I have shared a comprehensive article only on this topic to help people know the truth about the file transferring process of WeTransfer.
Wetransfer does not compress files, meaning that the files you send will be the same size as the original files. Since they know compressing files can reduce the quality of the file, They don’t do it.
This can be beneficial if you need to send large files, but it can also mean that the files you send will take longer to transfer.
Let’s send an image in its original version and after sending it to one of my other Gmail accounts, we can see the result of whether WeTransfer compresses a file or not. This is going to be an interesting experiment.
So stay tuned!
Step #1: I have sent one of my photos from my one Gmail to another one via WeTransfer. The original photo looks like this:
Step #2: After receiving the photo, I have downloaded that on my computer and opened it, the final version looks like this:
As you can see, there is no difference between the original version and the next version. So it is easily understandable that Wetransfer doesn’t compress files while transferring.
Note: Before transferring the image, the total size of the image was 83.8 KB, and after receiving the file via Wetransfer, the Image size is the same as before!
A compressed file is one kind of file type that has been decreased in dimensions. The reduced file size is accomplished by taking out redundant or unnecessary data, such as whitespace or unused code.
Compressed files take up less storage space than their larger counterparts, making them ideal for transferring large files over the internet or for storing them on a hard drive.
If your WeTransfer zip file is not opening, there are a few possible solutions:
the process for opening a WeTransfer zip file may vary depending on the operating system and file compression software you are using.
However, in general, you should be able to open a WeTransfer zip file by first uncompressing it using a file compression program such as WinRAR or 7-Zip, and then opening the extracted file or folder in your preferred file viewer.
There is no WeTransfer application for Windows, so the only way to open a WeTransfer file is to download it and then open it with the appropriate application for the file type.

While WeTransfer does compress files to save on bandwidth and storage, it is not as effective as other file compression tools.
So at the end of the article on Does Wetransfer Compress Files, it is clear that WeTransfer’s compression algorithm is not as sophisticated as other file compression tools, so it does not compress files as much as other tools.
